Lasso Named in Gartner's Hype Cycle for Artificial Intelligence, 2026

Gartner published its Hype Cycle for Artificial Intelligence, 2026 on August 28, and Lasso is named as a sample vendor under AI Governance Technologies, alongside Boomi, Databricks, Google, IBM, Microsoft, OneTrust, ServiceNow, and Zenity.

Gartner defines AI Governance Technologies (AIGT) as the tooling that operationalizes AI policy across the full AI life cycle, including oversight for value, risk management, compliance, observability, and security, across every type of AI an organization runs. The report rates AIGT at a moderate benefit today, with 5% to 20% market penetration, and puts it five to ten years out from mainstream adoption. It's also one of four technologies Gartner calls out by name in this year's Priority Matrix as fast-maturing controls that "enforce system accountability," alongside AI observability, AI agent identity, and AI cybersecurity governance.

The report's argument tracks with what we've watched happen with customers over the past year. Gartner is direct about it, stating on-paper AI policies that check a compliance box don't hold up once agents are acting on their own. The fix is technology that detects policy violations as they happen, embeds policy by design across the AI life cycle, and gives real visibility into what agents are actually doing. Traditional GRC tooling, built around periodic audits, doesn't have the real-time enforcement agentic AI requires.

Gartner also flags why this market is getting harder to navigate for buyers. Nearly every vendor now claims AI governance capabilities, and that's producing duplicated tooling and inflated claims of end-to-end coverage that don't hold up under real use. Its recommendation is to evaluate vendors against concrete requirements for AI usage control, observability, and runtime policy enforcement, rather than take governance claims at face value.
